AUSTIN (KXAN) - Dr. Pat Forgione , who will be replaced as Austin Independent School District superintendent in July, decided to institute a hiring freeze for all "non-essential, non-campus-based positions" on Tuesday.
However, hiring for all campus and classroom positions will "proceed in our usual manner."
One can speculate the economy has spurred on this action from Dr. Forgione. Dr. Meria Carstarphen , who assumes the superintendent position in July, will have the choice to fill those vacant positions or not.
Also, by mid-summer, Dr. Carstarphen and the AISD board will have a better idea of the impact of the new budget on the school's needs.
AISD does not know whether or not it will have to dip into the fund balance to comply with new laws to be approved by the state legislature.
