FREDERICKSBURG (KXAN) - Two Kerrville men were killed Monday afternoon when their ultralight plane crashed in the Hill Country, just south of Fredericksburg.

Roger Nathanson, 49, was the owner and pilot of the plane.  James Stokes, 62, was the passenger. Both men died at the scene.

Neighbors reported hearing a sputtering sound and then a flapping sound just before the plane fell out of the air. The crash happened around 1:00pm on the Bonn Ranch, a sprawling ranch about 10 miles south of Fredericksburg off Highway 16. The owner of the ranch said he did not know the two victims.

Gillespie County Sheriff's officials said the plane must have taken off from private property because the local airport had no record of the flight.

The plane was an ultralight, two seater with one engine.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
