AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Texas Longhorn starting receiver is facing criminal charges late Wednesday.

Dan Buckner was arrested in College Station on charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest after refusing to leave a woman's apartment in College Station, according to police. After the arrest, Buckner decided to transfer schools.

"We've talked to Dan and his family about his recent situation and they've assured us that he doesn't think he did anything wrong and they're confident that it will be cleared up through the legal process," said Mack Brown. "During our discussion with Dan and his family, we all decided that the best thing for him would be to transfer to another school and get a fresh start. We told them that we would release him of his scholarship and help him with the transition process in any way we can. We appreciate everything Dan has done for Texas and our football program and wish him the best in the future."

Bucker released a statement regarding his decision.

"I want to thank Coach Brown, Coach Kennedy and all of the staff for everything they've done for me," Buckner said. "I've really enjoyed my time at Texas, but we've talked about my situation, and I think it is best for me to get a fresh start and transfer to another school. I will miss all of my teammates, but will be keeping up with everyone and always cheering on theLonghorns."

According to Lt. Rodney Sigler of the College Station Police Department, Buckner was arrested just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Sigler said Buckner was visiting a woman when the two got into an argument - and Buckner reportedly refused to leave. Police said Buckner called 911, and when police arrived, he continued to refuse to leave after police repeatedly asked him to do so.

The officers wrote Buckner a report for criminal trespass but Sigler said he still refused to leave, so police took him into custody.

At that point, police said Buckner resisted arrest. He was released on $8,000 bail. Buckner is a sophomore from Allen, Texas.
