Testimony resumes in Haiti 'Baby Doc' case

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Alleged victims of the government of former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier have resumed their testimony in court.
Dr. Nicole Magloire told Haiti's court of appeals Thursday that the government of the leader known as 'Baby Doc' jailed her and drove her into exile.
A three-judge panel has been gathering testimony from people who say they suffered under Duvalier's 15-year rule.
The former president for life returned to Haiti in 2011 after 25 years in exile. Haitian authorities charged Duvalier with human rights abuses and embezzlement but a judge ruled he should face charges only for the alleged financial crimes.
An appellate court is trying to decide if it should reinstate the abuse charges against Duvalier or drop the alleged financial crimes. The case could also go to trial.
