AUSTIN (KXAN) - Heavy winds ripped through north Austin Monday night, tearing the roof from a local gym.

Lifetime Fitness on 620 just east of 183 now has an exposed workout floor across half of the building. The majority of the damage cannot be seen from outside.

One worker told KXAN, "The wind just kind of rolled the roof up. It's all still up there, but it looks worse inside."

From the windows, passersby could see water dripping from beams above and towels soaking up the rain that had already fallen to the floor.

Chunks of insulation from the roof if the 60-yard long structure were scattered in the west parking lot.

A sheet of paper on the front door read "Closed for Service." Several gym members were turned away when they drove up.

A worker guarding the entrance said, "We're going to be closed for at least two days."

The Bastrop County Appraisal District located 209 S. Jackson in Bastrop was damaged due to high winds. According to the Bastrop Sheriff office they have received reports of several trees and powerlines down in the area.
