KXAN (AUSTIN) - About 100 people who showed up at Opal Divine's Saturday for a Q & A session expected to hear a showdown between Lee Leffingwell and Carole Keeton Strayhorn but Leffingwell was the only mayoral candidate to show.
Change Austin dot org hosted the forum this afternoon that
started at 4 p.m.
Candidates running for council seats took the floor first.
Each one was asked the same series of questions including whether
or not they would support a bill that requires more signatures on a
petition, and if they would entertain "no bid" proposals if
elected.
But the most controversial - had to do with DWI blood draws and if they support Chief Art Acevedo's initiative.
"I don't think it's good policy - DNA caputured," said Mayoral candidate Lee Leffingwell.
The majority of council candidates agree with Leffingwell. They believe is a violation of one's constitutional rights.
Strayhorn had a spokesperson here on her behalf. She
celebrated the birth of her first grandson, while Brewster
McCracken was out of town.
Tonight at ten, hear from a number of other council candidates on the blood draws.
