AUSTIN (KXAN) - It was just after noon on Primary Election Day, and Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir was downright ecstatic.
"We are voting!" she exclaimed. "Voting's been steady. They're all cooperating with each other - the Ds and the Rs - and harmony prevails! We are all surprised."
On a cool, sunny day, Texans turned out to choose the party nominees for the November elections for seats ranging from local Justice of the Peace races all the way up to Texas Governor.
And while Hays and Williamson counties are reporting turnout among the usual rates, DeBeauvoir said. Travis voters appear to be breaking records - mirroring the significant increase reported in the eary voting this time around.
"The turnout is higher than the previous gubernatorial [primary], by a nice turnout," she said. "We're probably going to break last gubernatorial's record. This is a very nice turnout."
And with a rash of new volunteers working the polls, there were no major problems being reported there, either. Both the voters and the volunteers seem to have done their homework, she said.
"Everything's been going smoothly," she said.
