In a close vote, the State Board of Education decided late Friday night to give some public money to charter schools.

The Board manages a $22,000,000,000.00 endowment fund.

Last night members voted 7-6 to make about 100-million of that available to charter schools.

Supporters say it's an investment that can show returns for the fund if charter schools lease or rent land.

Opponents say it's risky for the state to be investing in schools that can't qualify for traditional bank loans.
