LULING, Texas (KXAN) - During a special meeting Monday night, the Luling school board voted 4-1 on a proposal to terminate coach Jeff Nine's contract.
According to school officials, Nine was “horseplaying” with a 16-year-old student during class and put the teen in a headlock on the second day of school.
The boy told police he lost consciousness at one point and fell to the floor. Officials said a school nurse said the student was fine, and his parents later took him to a hospital emergency room to be certain.
Luling Independent School District Superintendent David Davis said Nine was starting his second year with the district but had been teaching for about 25 years. Nine was a science teacher and assistant football and baseball coach.
The school board is expected to fire Nine at their regularly scheduled September board meeting.
Nine has the option to request a hearing or resign from the district before that happens.
