AUSTIN (KXAN) - Many science professors from universities across the state said evolution should only be taught in Texas public schools. A survey released Monday by the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund found about 460 biology and anthropology professors currently teaching in Texas reject "intelligent design" as a valid science. 95 percent said they only want evolution taught in science classrooms.
The
creationism, evolution controversy is not new,
but this report comes as members of the Texas State Board of
Education prepare to revise science curriculum for all Texas public
school students in early 2009.
"The only real controversy is whether the personal beliefs of
politicians on the state board will trump established, mainstream
science and threaten a 21st century education for our
schoolchildren," Kathy Miller with The Texas Freedom Network
Education Fund said.
Governor Perry and many members of the Texas State Board of Education disagree though and feel that all theories should be presented in science class.
