AUSTIN (KXAN) - Pearce Middle school is hosting a new-student orientation Friday morning in an effort to find new students.
Under the district's repurposing plan keeping the school open, the student body must be 50 percent new students.
Earlier this year, the school was in danger of closing after students failed to pass the TAKS tests in eight of the last 10 years.
Yet, under the deal worked out with the State Board of Education , the school will offer new leadership and more services to try and help students achieve.
New Principal Trana Allen will be leading the school. She comes from the Round Rock Independent School District where she took Berkman Elementary from a rating of acceptable to exemplary in just one year.
In addition to a new principal, Pearce Middle School must also have 75 percent new teachers. The 25 percent that have been allowed to return was based on their job performance.
Saturday the district is hosting their annual back-to-school bash at the Delco Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
