AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin Independent School District wants to know how residents think they should spend the federal stimulus money they are receiving.

AISD is expected to receive $21 million to spend on Title One programs and $19 million on special education throughout the next two years. The district is also expecting some money through the stabilization funds, but that amount has not been determined.

District officials proposed four categories where the funding could be used:

  • college prep
  • early childhood programs
  • English language
  • funding the lowest-performing schools

The district has received 40 responses so far to its request for help in deciding how to spend the federal stimulus funding. Friday is the deadline to turn in those forms.

“We have a committee that will take all the ideas, vet them through that committee to look at them,” said Steve West, AISD CFO.
