(KXAN) - Officer stabbed with needle
An Austin police officer was stabbed with a syringe by a transient with Hepatitis while on patrol for SXSW.
The officer was on bike patrol at Duncan Park at 900 West Ninth Street. When he approached Shoal Creek, the officer saw Michael Tinkham, 26, holding a bottle of vodka, according to police.
When the officer went to handcuff Tinkham, police said he started swinging a syringe at them, stabbing one of the officers in the hand. Police shot a Taser at Tinkham, and he was taken into custody. Tinkham is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.
Officer put in a headlock by a man
An Austin police officer was put in a headlock by a man kicked out of a bar (no location given).
Austin police arrested Pete Whiterock, 53, after they were called to a bar by an employee who said Whiterock was sitting at the bar despite the fact he had been told not to return on numerous occasions.
When the officer arrived, he called out Whiterock's name and Whiterock lunged at the officer and put the officer in a headlock. A bar patron helped the officer, and the officer called for back up. Whiterock was arrested and faces third-degree felony charges.
