BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - A Bastrop teacher, Jonny Frelich, of Kyle, who is also the girls' softball coach, resigned his position on Jan. 13 amid allegations that he was involved in a case of inappropriate contact with a student.
Bastrop Independent School District received a report on Jan. 17 about the alleged incident and started an internal investigation. BISD said Friday in a prepared statement that officials contacted local law enforcement as soon as they received the report.
Bastrop County records show Frelich was booked on Thursday and bonded out on a $50,000 bond.
Frelich, 31, was also convicted in October of driving while intoxicated, according to Bastrop County Court records.
A letter was sent to softball team members' parents on Jan. 18, assuring them that proper investigative measures were taking place and that they were ensuring the safety of the young women on the team.
BISD Superintendent Don Williams confirmed Friday that Frelich is the teacher in question.
