AUSTIN (KXAN) - The man accused of killing two Austin women in April because he was upset that his daughter was romantically involved with one of them was indicted Tuesday on a capital murder charge.

Jose Alfonso Aviles was arrested April 19 in San Antonio -- one day after Maria Hurtado, 57, and her 24-year-old daughter, Norma, were shot to death in their home in South Austin.

Police said Aviles, 45, was angry his daughter had been seeing Norma. They also said he had previously threatened Norma and that the two families had exchanged words.

The shooting happened in the 7100 block of Dixie Drive near East William Cannon Drive around 6:45 p.m. on April 18. Witness told police they saw two men running from the area before driving away in a green Chevrolet Blazer.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force tracked down Aviles to a remote part of San Antonio after they found his car in South Bexar County.

About 30 units responded with the help of the San Antonio Police Department Air Wing unit, and Aviles surrendered. He was taken to the San Antonio Police Department Homicide Unit for questioning, while his car underwent forensic testing.

A capital murder conviction could result in the death penalty.

Meanwhile, the Travis County District Attorney's Office in late April was looking into pursuing the case as a hate crime.
