Suspect hits security guard in theft

Allegedly tries to steal baseball caps

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Robert Hamilton, 28, was arrested and charged with third-degree felony Monday evening after police said he attacked a security guard at JC Penney, 9500 S. Interstate 35 .

According to the police report, a witness saw Hamilton stuff several baseball caps into his pants and walk past the registers toward the exit. The security guard and other store employees stopped the suspect.

According to police, a fight started when Hamilton allegedly ignored the security guard's demand. Authorities said Hamilton bit the security guard on the arm and punched him in the face, breaking his glasses. Hamilton got away from the security guard and went into a Target store nearby, where he was arrested.

The security guard suffered a busted lip and complained of aches and pains. EMS was not called to the scene.

Hamilton is being held on a $4,000 bond
