Site of multiple shooting was targeted as nuisance

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Spiro's nightclub, the site of a multiple shooting last month, on Friday agreed to give up its liquor license and shut down the club.

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commissoin Lt. Jimmy Zuehlke confirmed that the owner of Spiro's would have to go through numerous hearings and associated costs in order to keep the club open.

Spiro's owner and lawyer were not reachable as of early this evening.

Lieutenant Zuelke said, "This is a good move on Spiro's part for the TABC, the Austin Police department, and revelers who enjoy Sixth Street."

Spiro's liquor permit was due to be renewed June 20th, but management closed down early.

Lieutenant Zuelke says it was a combination of accumulated incidents that put the club on TABC's radar, and ultimately led to the voluntary closure.
