AUSTIN (KXAN) - Travis County Medical Examiner David Dolinak testified Thursday afternoon about the brutal nature of Bianca Maldonado’s injuries.

The jury viewed graphic autopsy pictures that showed stab wounds, bruising and trauma to most of Maldonado’s body.

Dolinak said Maldonado died of blood loss from 46 stab wounds and she appeared to have been sexually assaulted with a large object. He said she had 11 stab wounds to her left lung plus 30 cuts and four fractured ribs.

He made key testimony that Maldonado suffered the injuries while alive which would a death sentence possible if Areli Escobar is convicted.

A latent print expert testified on Thursday morning that Areli Escobar's fingerprints appeared to match prints found on certain items inside Bianca Maldonado’s apartment.

Sandy Seigel's testimony came on day six of the capital murder trial that seeks to convict the suspect in the homicide case of the teen mother found dead on May 31, 2009. Her then-1-year-old child was next to her, and though injured, he was not killed.

Siegel said she found fingerprints on a bottle of lotion that would indicate Escobar held it and tried to squeeze lotion out of the bottle which was found lying nearby Maldonado’s body at the crime scene.

Not even identical twins have identical finger prints and each finger on an individual’s hands have unique prints.
