AUSTIN (KXAN) - Forensics experts, homicide detectives and the medical examiner are all witnesses expected to testify on day four of the Areli Escobar capital murder trial.
A forensic scientist testified Tuesday morning about blood found on some items connected to the scene where 17-year-old Bianca Maldonado was murdered in May 2009.
A significant portion of the testimony focused around a pair of shoes Escobar wore the night of the murder and if the shoes' tread could have left a bloody impression in the carpet at Maldonado's apartment.
The medical examiner could be a key witness as the prosecution will try to prove that Maldonado was sexually assaulted by Escobar before he murdered her, making him eligible for the death penalty.
On Monday, the jury received the transcripts of text messages made between Escobar, Zoe Lopez and Escobar's sisters.
