AUSTIN (TEXAS) - An Austin mother found a 22-year-old man in her teenage daughter's bed last Thursday and now believes her daughter was targeted by an online predator.
That man, Eddie Carrera, is facing one charge of indecency with a child by contact, a second degree felony.
Jane Smith, who is going by a fake name to protect her 14-year-old daughter's identity, said she noticed her daughter acting strange last week. The girl was holed up in her bedroom and wouldn't let the family dog, that she typically sleeps with, into her room.
"I knocked on the door and she just stood at the door and said she was tired," said Smith, who is handicapped and has a hard time getting around. "She looked tired."
Jane decided to give her daughter her space, but as hours passed and her daughter didn't come out, she grew increasingly suspicious.
When her daughter hopped into the shower, the mother took a butter knife to the locked door and found a 22-year-old man in her bed.
It was the last thing she expected to see.
"First, I asked him for a driver's license and for identification and he goes, 'Sorry ma'am, I don't have any," Smith recalled.
Smith's fiance walked into the bedroom and confronted the man who claimed he was 18.
"My fiance was like, 'You know she is fourteen?'"
Her daughter only knew the man by his nickname, Kilo.
The two met on the online social website MBuzzy.com and had been talking since March.
The girl's profile showed her age as 14, way under the age of consent.
Carrera admitted to making out with the girl, touching her privates and fondling her, a court affidavit states.
He also admitted to being dropped off at the girl's house, climbing through her window and staying in the bedroom with her for about 24 hours.
"The fact remains, he is an adult. He knew better," Smith said.
Carrera also admitted the girl touched his genitals, according to the affidavit.
"Eventually, it came down to where all his clothes came off except for his boxers," Smith explained.
Smith said she is also holding her daughter responsible for what happened and that she shouldn't have let the man in.
She has taken away her daughter's online privileges and cell phone.
Smith said although she can't be sure, she thinks more happened in that bedroom than just touching.
"You can't tell me that a 22-year-old man is just going to stop there," Smith said.
When asked if Smith though Carrera had sexual intercourse with her daughter, she responded, 'yes.'
Jane home schools her daughter and thought she was doing enough to keep her safe online.
She plans to see Carrera in court and said she wants to see him behind bars.
Police did interview her daughter, but she was not examined at an area hospital because she had already showered when police arrived. Police said the girl also admitted to 'making out' and 'touching' Carrera and that their stories matched up.
