WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - An inmate missing from the Burnet County Jail stole a gun and some clothes from a home and is believed to be hiding in the woods in Williamson County, officials said Wednesday.
"We've gone from escaping from the Burnet County Jail to obviously desperate measures on his part, because now we believe him to be armed and dangerous," said Williamson County Sheriff Office Det. John Foster. ""He may be seven counties over by now, I don’t know. But it wouldn’t be fair for us and all these other agencies that are involved not to start looking where he was last reported to be at."
Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez, 23, has been missing since Sunday night. He was being held in lieu of $200,000 bond in connection with a violent home invasion on April 14.
As a fresh Williamson County burglary points in the direction of a missing inmate, trailers full of horses, bloodhounds and all-terrain vehicles are being employed in the search for Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez, 23. He has been missing from the Burnet County Jail for more than two days.
Employees with the Pedernales Electric Cooperative were helping in the search, too, as believe he is traveling on foot, using pathways used by electric companies to easily access remote electric poles.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said fingerprints recovered from a burglary off County Road 204 in Williamson County match those of Fuentes-Sanchez.
Investigators said the burglary happened Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. The suspect took blue denim jeans, a white T-shirt, a Texas Star Hockey baseball cap and a .22-caliber handgun. Officials said he took the time to shave his head and have something to eat while inside the house.
Officials are in the Liberty Hill vicinity in relation to the search, and some homeowners in the area are getting prepared.
"If anyone comes into my house, I have my own gun, and I'm not scared to use it," said Liberty Hill homeowner Jim Davis. "I’ll take care of him in the proper way, if he does (try to break into my home). ... I keep a handgun in the house, and I wouldn’t mind using it on someone that’s going to harm my family."
Hill Country Area Crimestoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and arrest of Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez. Tipsters should call 866-756-8477.
