SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - A 13-year-old was attacked in a restroom at a San Marcos middle school and jabbed with a pen or pencil on Tuesday, officials said.

It happened at Goodnight Middle School during the first passing period between 8:14 a.m. and 8:20 a.m.

The teen went to the restroom, and that's when police said three other students jumped him. He told police the students began punching him and that he later saw a silver object being pulled out of his side.

The trio ran away, and police arrested two of them an hour and a half after the attack. They are 13 and 15 years old. Police are still looking for the third.

San Marcos Police Sgt. Marty Manzi said the incident is gang-related, adding that there were some gang slogans used during the attack.

The teen has one puncture wound. All vital organs were missed, and the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Manzi said there have not been any violent episodes like this before on campus.

The school district declined to comment since the case is an ongoing investigation.
