AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Texas Attorney General’s cyber crimes unit arrested an Austin man for possession of child pornography.
Rene DeLaCruz , 31, was arrested on Feb. 22 and faces three third-degree felony charges of child pornography possession.
The cyber crimes unit began its investigation after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children . According to the attorney general’s office, investigators indentified DeLaCruz as the suspect who appeared to have uploaded images of child pornography to an online storage account.
Officers executed a search warrant on Feb. 20 and confiscated computers, cell phones, media storage devices and a digital camera from DeLaCruz’s residence.
According to investigators, an initial forensic examination of one of the computers turned up multiple illicit images of children being sexually assaulted.
DeLaCruz is being held at the Travis County Jail. Bond was set at $15,000 for each of the three charges. Each count is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
