AUSTIN (KXAN) - A mail carrier told police she was attacked by a man in East Austin as she tried to deliver the mail.

She said that last month, she was on duty in the 1200 block of E. 11th when a man approached her, hollered profanities, and hit in the face with his hand.

The attach happened around 1 p.m., she said.

Police said the attacker, whom they later identified as Elton Lorenzo Taylor, 47, hit her in the face a second time and, as she screamed and reached for her phone to call 911, he told her no one would help her.

The victim told the 911 operator she did not know the man or his name. At this time the suspect, Taylor, told the victim what his name was.

Austin Police later provided the victim with a photo lineup where she positively identified him.

Taylor is charged with assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony.
