AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police said they have a suspect in custody after the Wells Fargo Bank at William Cannon Drive and Manchaca Road was robbed Wednesday morning.

 

Austin police officers responded to a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1901 West Cannon Drive at 10:16 a.m. on Wednesday.

 

A suspect entered the bank, demanded cash and left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect left the bank and headed towards a street behind the bank as witnesses followed him.

As the suspect was being followed he turned around and fired a gun at one of the witnesses. No one was injured.

Patrol officers quickly responded to the area and set up a perimeter. Due to the information provided by witnesses and the officer's quick response, APD was able to locate the suspect and take him into custody without incident. In addition, evidence from the robbery has been recovered.

Charges are pending and the suspect's identity will be released once charges are filed. This case is under investigation by the Austin Robbery Unit and members of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force.

This case remains under investigation by APD Robbery detectives.

 

This bank has been robbed twice this year.
