Knifepoint robbery at UT early Tuesday

Victim approached from behind and pushed to ground

AUSTIN (KXAN) - University of Texas police are searching for a mugging suspect that held a victim a knifepoint early Tuesday morning at UT.

The robbery happened on Inner Campus Drive between the Gebauer and Painter buildings around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday when the suspect approached the victim from behind and pushed him to the ground. He sustained injuries to his right forehead, elbow and knee.

The suspect left the scene going north and was last seen wearing a waist-length, camel-colored jacket and jeans-type pants. They were not baggy but were described as very dusty and dirty.

The victim described the weapon as a blue-grey metal folding knife with a razor-type blade.

Suspect description

  • Male in his early 30s
  • Medium-to-dark skin tone
  • 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • Thin-to-medium build
  • Short, dark brown hair about collar-length
  • Scruffy-looking dark brown facial hair
  • No glasses
     

Officials advise people to be aware of their surroundings and use caution when on campus late at night or in the early morning hours. UTPD asks you call them at (512) 471-4441 with any information or to report suspicious people.
