Father indicted for son's death in car

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Kesen Hu was indicted Tuesday on two felony counts for the August heat-related death of his 18-month-old son.

Hu, 34, was indicted on criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment according to Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley. 

Daniel Hu was found dead in an overheated car on August 12, 2009.  The boy had been in the car for seven hours.

A passerby spotted the child in the car in a northwest Austin parking lot and alerted police.  By the time the child was found, he was dead.

Hu said in his arrest affidavit he forgot to drop his child off at the day care center.

Austin police said Hu left his son in the car, which was not running. The windows were rolled up, and the temperature had topped out at 106 degrees.

It can take less than five minutes for the temperature inside a hot car to reach 120 degrees.
