DWI numbers hold steady during holiday

AUSTIN (KXAN) - An identical number of DWI arrests were made during Austin Police Department’s July 4th “no refusal weekend” as they made the previous year.

24 people were arrested for driving drunk from 9pm Saturday night to 5am Sunday morning.

Of those 24, 13 provided breath samples, 10 refused and were subject to blood draws, and one blood draw was mandatory.

APD senior officer Veneza Aguinaga says the same amount of officers were out patrolling as they would have on any other weekend.

“The number of officers has not changed on any weekend. It is just the initiative itself.” Said Aguinaga.
