AUSTIN (KXAN) - Richard Powell, 26, is accused of attacking his girlfriend with a knife after choking her.

On Tuesday, Powell and his girlfriend got into a fight, which resulted in him allgedly choking her. The girlfriend told police that Powell told his son to "go in the kitchen and get a knife." After the son fetched the knife for his father, Powell told his son to go in the living room and watch television.

Powell then held the 3- to 4-inch knife over the victim's body, saying he could kill her "right now," according to reports. The victim, scared for her life, said she was able to calm him down, reassuring him that they could work on their relationship. Powell then put the knife down and went to smoke a cigarette, according to the victim.

The victim rushed to the phone and called 911. After calling the police, she ran over to a neighbor's house.

The girlfriend had scratches all over her neck, as well as fingernail marks. She was bleeding, also. According to reports, Powell choked her to the point of her almost passing out.
