CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - Cedar Park City Council plans to vote Thursday night on a proposed ban of synthetic drugs that simulate marijuana.
Known by names including "spice" and "K2," the substance is currently legal in most places, but that is changing.
Some states and cities have already banned it, including Dallas.
A statewide ban could also move through the Texas Legislature in the upcoming session.
Cedar Park police said they haven't seen a problem with spice locally but that they just want to be proactive.
In May, a KXAN In-Depth report explored the growing popularity of the substance and the growing number of people ending up in emergency rooms after using it.
The City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Public Library .
