City manager still considering what to do

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - Bastrop's city manager said he is still considering what to do with Bastrop Police Department Chief David Board after he was arrested on a DWI charge Monday night.

Bastrop city leaders said Wednesday that they will take Board's 24 years of service to the community into consideration when deciding whether his DWI will affect his job.

A police report indicates Board admitted to having a few beers. Authorities released him from jail Tuesday morning after a breathalyzer showed he was three times over the legal limit to drive, testing twice at 0.226 and 0.227.

On Tuesday, Board met with City Manager Mike Talbot to ask for some time to tend to personal matters.

Talbot said he will consider the facts and circumstances of the situation before making a decision on the chief's future. He also confirmed that Board is on leave from his job with the city.

Board's arrest on drunk driving charges Monday night led to a meeting with the city manager's office on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Assistant Chief Matt Wagner will take over.

Board also had a previous DWI conviction back in 1985, the year before he joined Bastrop's police force.
