AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police arrested a man in connection with an attempted sexual assault that happened on Saturday morning near Hart Elementary School.
Detectives identified David Sanchez, 29, as a possible suspect after they got an anonymous tip. Investigators said during the interview Sanchez admitted he was involved.
He is charged with robbery.
Police said the woman was walking on the back side of the campus around 7:30 a.m. when a man grabbed her and pulled her onto the playground.
The suspect tried to sexually assault the victim but another woman walking nearby stopped him.
"She heard the screams, came around and saw the suspect on top of her and she picked up the phone and called 911," said Michael Crumrine with APD's sex crimes unit.
The 911 caller was on the line with a dispatcher as the man ran off.
The victim told detectives she has seen the suspect in the area before.
The attack at Hart Elementary comes less than three weeks after a woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger on the grounds of Odom Elementary School in south Austin. That suspect, John Therrin Baldwin, 51, was arrested through DNA evidence left at the scene.
Last week, a woman walking on Clawson Road in southeast Austin was grabbed by a stranger, dragged into a wooded area and sexually assaulted. Police do not believe the attacks are related.
The case is still under investigation.
