AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police hauled in 24 people over 12 hours this weekend.

From 5pm Saturday until 5am this morning officers gave 13-people breathalyzer tests.

They took blood from another eleven, ten of which they had to use search warrants. Officers say this No Refusal weekend has been a success.

But it takes a lot of manpower to pull off a No Refusal weekend, which is one reason they limit them to certain times of the year.

"We try to do it you know focused holidays and times of the year when the statistics show there's a lot of drunks," said David Mahoney with the Austin Police Department.

This was the first No Refusal weekend over the Fourth of July.
