AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin homicide detectives are investigating a weekend fire that killed two people when it ripped through a South Austin apartment, and investigators said this might not be an accident.
Firefighters responding to an apartment on Cougar Drive Saturday evening and found Brent Ray McDavid, 32, and Norma Gene McDavid, 62, dead.
Witnesses said before the fire, they heard a lot of yelling and fighting coming from that apartment.
Austin Police Department and Austin Fire Department investigators want to talk to a bald or closely shaved white man, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, who was seen leaving the apartment just before the fire.
"The fact that he left at such close proximity to the time of
the fire, when AFD arrived, means that he may be someone who has
important information for us," said APD Sgt. Hector Reveles.
Detectives are also looking for a white vehicle seen outside
right before the fire. There were reportedly two white men inside,
one wearing a yellow bandana.
AFD is running tests to determine the cause of the fire, but results are not expected for at least two weeks.
Detectives said they are interested in speaking with anyone who was at the residence or has information pertaining to the victims.
This case remains under investigation by APD's Homicide Unit. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide tip line at (512) 477-3588.
