ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - A Round Rock woman is charged with leaving four children alone at a home daycare. Police arrested Edel Sum, 39, on Monday and charged her with abandoning or endangering a child. According to police reports, Sum was involved in a car accident at the intersection of A.W. Grimes and University, when she told an officer on the scene that she needed to "leave immediately because there were kids [at] home."
That officer was also advised that a 911 call was received about four kids being left unattended at Sum's house. He followed her to her house in Round Rock, where the four children, all under the age of two, were safe. The officer talked with the neighbor who reported that Sum had called him and asked to go to her house and watch the kids. The neighbor also told the officer that Sum said she left the kids alone while she went to Georgetown.
According to the affidavit, the neighbor went to Sum's house, which was locked. Eventually the neighbor was able to enter and found the four children in playpens. He then called the police. Sum is charged with four felony counts of endangering a child. The children were left alone for more than hour.
