AUSTIN (KXAN) - Law enforcement agencies from more than 250 agencies across Texas began their Saturday knocking on the doors of individuals who have outstanding warrants.
The Austin Police Department joined in the warrant roundup effort which targets those who have unpaid tickets and arrests them.
Officer Charlie Maestas with APD advises that it is not the original offense leading to the arrest but not paying ticket issued on the offense.
Although the Roundup focus is on Class C charges including traffic violations, misdemeanors or City ordinance offenses; higher charge warrants also will be served. Delinquent parking cases will also be targeted.
This major, multi-jurisdictional push kicked off February 19 with the mailing of thousands of notices warning people with outstanding warrants of the impending arrest effort. The last day to clear warrants was Friday, March 5, before the concentrated effort to make arrests began.
