KINGSLAND, Texas (KXAN) - High school students in Buda are dealing with the death of a classmate who died after falling off a golf cart in the Hill Country.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is now investigating after medics on scene said Alyssa Marie Bargsley, 17, smelled like alcohol.

"Normally you would expect that people die when they're older or because they were sick, but not, you know, your age," said Hays High School junior Chantal Hundtnicksch, who was in Alyssa's English class. "There was nobody sitting in her chair, and it was just sad."

A team of counselors were on hand Monday to help dozens of students deal with Bargsley's sudden death. Many students knew her and described her as a student who had no social boundaries when it came to making friends.

"I almost feel like I got to know her today by the words that her friends and students used to talk about her," said Christopher Brown, Hays Consolidated Independent School District Mental Health coordinator. " Words like 'loving, caring, generous.'"

Accident-scene paint on Laramie Lane in Kingsland marked the spot on the street where the well-known teenager's weekend went terribly wrong. A spokesperson with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the 17-year-old was standing on the back of a moving golf cart Saturday around 7 p.m.

The driver, another Hays High School student, started swerving back and forth, according to officials. The golf cart hit a bump, and Bargsley fell off and hit her head on the pavement. She was pronounced dead on scene about half an hour later at the helicopter landing zone.

Neighbors told KXAN Austin News they had seen the cart go up and down the street all day and that it was being used to haul people from a nearby home out to a pier on nearby Lake Buchanan.

TABC investigators have launched a source investigation to figure out who supplied the teenager with alcohol.

Comments have been pouring in on a new Facebook page created in the Bargsley's memory. More than 200 people have joined and have spread the word about a candlelight vigil Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Buda City Park .

"We're going to all take candles and maybe some memories, like pictures," said Hundtnicksch. "Just try to be all together and share our emotions."
