AUSTIN (KXAN) - Witness descriptions aid in the arrest of a suspect in the Sunday homicide of Franklin Espinales, 29.

Based on descriptions from the shooting at the Whisper Wood Apartments at 408 East Wonsley Drive , police said they found the 27-year-old suspect in the area the day the shooting happened.

Authorities said Brian Russell was walking on Georgian Drive near the scene of the homicide - about 10 hours after it happened - when police picked him up on an unrelated warrant and took him to jail.

Court documents indicate an argument started after Russell arrived in the courtyard of an apartment complex where a party was happening around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Russell reportedly pulled a silver handgun from his waistband and - after pointing it at two other people - pointed it at Espinales.

Russell allegedly fled the scene and told police he was not in the area the night of the shooting, though police said surveillance video places him near the scene of the shooting.

The suspect's relative told police Russell admitted to her that he had shot someone that night.

In a police lineup, officials said witnesses were able to identify Russell as the shooter, and he was arrested on charges of first-degree felony murder.

Russell's photo is being withheld pending continuing photo identification.
