AUSTIN (KXAN) - Family and friends of an Austin woman killed in a hit and run crash will gather Saturday to memorialize her on Austin's hike and bike trail.
Courtney Griffin died May 28 when she was hit by a car while walking home along Exposition Boulevard. Police charged Gabrielle Nestande, 23, with failure to stop and render aid in the crash. She is free on bond and has not been indicted in the case. Investigators contine to wait on toxicology results in the case before filing additional charges.
Kyle Kemp was a friend of Griffin who planned the memorial run in Courtney's honor.
"Just doing something she loved to do," said Kemp. "I'm encouraging people to bring out their animals, too."
The run, scheduled for Saturday morning, will be pet friendly, because Griffin loved animals and dedicated a great deal of time to helping Austin Pets Alive!, which will be taking donations from people participating in the memorial run.
People who want to participate in the run will gather Saturday morning at the Hill Country Running Company on South Lamar at 9 a.m.
