Houston woman charged in computer fraud

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. attorney in New Orleans said a 34-year-old Houston woman is accused of taking money intended as payments for mortgage closings.

"A bill of information Wednesday charges Jodie Hoang with one count of computer fraud," said U.S. Attorney Jim Letten . "The alleged fraud occurred while she was an accounting clerk in New Orleans for Standard Mortgage Corp ."

Part of Hoang's job was processing money from loan closings. The bill of information alleges that she changed the deposit code for customers' payments, then made checks payable to herself or her credit card providers.

The maximum sentence would be five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

She could also be ordered to pay restitution to Standard Mortgage Corporation.
