Gun parts, ammo found in dumpster

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives made an unusual discovery Tuesday.

They pulled out several firearm parts and rounds of ammunition in a dumpster behind the Contempo Apartment complex near Swanee and Guadualupe streets.

Officers found several gun parts from the upper receivers of AR-15 style rifles wrapped in socks. The lower parts, which have the serial numbers on them, were missing.

Agents were tipped off after someone was dumpster diving and found the firearm parts and ammunition. Authorities believe they were placed in the dumpster last night or this morning.

Officers are now investigating where the weapon parts and ammunition came from and just who placed them there. They admit without the serial numbers, it makes the investigation that much harder.
