AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin attorney John Ribble Moore, 52, is charged with possessing child pornography and was arrested Friday by the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit.
According to a news release from the office of Attorney General Greg Abbott, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children referred this case to their Cyber Crimes Unit after receiving a CyberTip. The tip stated images of child pornography were illegally uploaded to the Internet.
The Cyber Crimes Unit had enough evidence to get a search warrant and go to Moore's Central Austin home Friday. According to his arrest warrant, he was home along with his wife and two kids. A detective found "numerous" pictures of child porn on a Dell desktop computer in his home office.
Family said he was the only one who used the computer. It was also password protected and had "John Moore" as the login name. No one came to the door when KXAN stopped by his home Tuesday, and he has not returned phone calls. He practices law in Travis and Williamson counties.
Moore is out of jail on a $15,000 bond for the third-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography. The charge carries a penalty of 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
