AUSTIN (KXAN) - Police found stolen credit cards and driver's licenses linked to burglaries in a puzzling car crash involving a pregnant woman and her boyfriend.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said Kelly Roan, 28, shot himself in the foot while driving on Sunday, lost control of the car and crashed near 13000 block of N. Highway 183. An off-duty firefighter witnessed the wreck and stopped to help Roan and his pregnant girlfriend Casey Dixon, 20.
While assisting the couple, the firefighter overheard Roan and Dixon talking about who would "take the fall" for the gun. He also heard Roan tell Dixon to "get rid of the stuff."
The firefighter said Dixon threw several items, including the handgun, over the edge of the elevated highway onto the road below.
Police found the items she had thrown, which included two Texas driver's licenses, credit cards and other documents which were linked to burglaries.
Roan and Dixon were charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. If convicted, the duo faces 10 years in jail each and fines totaling $20,000.
