AUSTIN (KXAN) - An undercover sting at Walnut Creek Park off Lamar Boulevard ended with four men facing indecent exposure charges.
Alvin Jones, 54, Michael Montecalvo, 34, Tevin Dillard, 18, and John Nash, 50, were arrested Friday.
Officer said Jones was milling around the bathroom and touching his privates over his clothing. An undercover officer approached Jones, who told him he was new at this and asked the officer to join him in the restroom, the court affidavit states.
The affidavit states that when he went into the bathroom he found Jones without his pants on touching himself.
Police said people in the park could see Jones through the doorway and that children frequent the park.
Jones later left in a car and police pulled him over and arrested him.
He is being held on $5,000 bond.
As for Montecalvo and Nash, undercover officers said they witnessed both men, at different times, engaged in lewd sexual behavior in the same bathroom that could clearly be seen by other park attendants, including children.
Both men also exposed themselves, police said.
Montecalvo and Nash are each being held on $5,000 bond.
KXAN covered similar incidents over the past seven years, with police busting dozens of suspects in stings that happen every year or two.
Families who frequent Walnut Creek Park are surprised to hear about it.
"It's a little concerning," said Meagan McGovern, a mother picnicking with her family Valentine's Day afternoon.
"I'm surprised they don't go someplace more private," she said.
Police said that the lewd acts occur mainly during lunch and evening hours. Park patrons are often greeted by the sight of the illegal acts when they park their vehicles, or walk to the restrooms. Although the area where most of the activity occurs is not directly on the trail, it still occurs in the park and within view of the public.
