CEDAR HILL, Texas (AP) - A Dallas-area man needed stitches after he said his new cell phone exploded and left him with a bloody head.

Aron Embry of Cedar Hill said he had just finished a call on his Motorola Droid smartphone Thursday when he heard a loud "pop."

WFAA-TV reports Embry sought treatment at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches in his ear area, but said he did not suffer hearing loss. Embry had a bandage around his head following the incident.

The face of the phone was cracked and splattered with blood after the blast. Embry said he only bought the device two days earlier.

Motorola Inc. issued a statement Thursday night said its priority is customer safety and it is investigating the incident.
