AUSTIN (KXAN) - Making healthy choices for your kids is so important.

That's why two Austin moms have started an organic baby food company, and it's delivered right to your doorstep. It's called Little Vittles .

Rachael and Lesley Patterson rent space in a commercial kitchen twice a week to cook up organic baby food.

"We make a wonderful beet and hummus puree, we do blueberries and bananas and peaches and a whole manner of fruits and vegetables," said Little Vittles co-owner Lesley. "We also have grains, like rice, fish and chicken."

They make purees for 6- to 8-month-olds, small chunked foods for babies 8- to 10 months old and small meals for kids up to a year old. All of the ingredients are organic and are many times local, depending on the season.

The idea for the company was to give parents a different option to store-bought food.

"It's really, really processed so the nutrients that you would find in fresh food are not in there because those jars of food have a shelf life of two years," said Little Vittles co-owner Rachael. "You can't put an apple on your counter and have it ready to eat in two years, so why should your baby food have that quality to it?"

The Patterson's make sure the food tastes fresh and has all of its natural flavors.

"So your child actually knows what a pear tastes like or what peas are suppose to taste like," said Rachael. "Not the stuff you get from the store."

If you're interested in getting Little Vittles foods, all you have to do is sign up online. All of the food is delivered to your home free of charge twice a week.

The cost per jar ranges between $2 and $3 .
