Sticking it to kitty litter

AUSTIN (KXAN) - When you're starting a new business, it's best to go with what you know.

One Austin entrepreneur has followed that advice and created a product that may be a can't-miss for cat lovers.

"I have a passion for cleanliness, notice I say passion cause I'm not the best at cleaning," said Carol O'Brien, Founder of Cleanicity .

Yet you would never guess that Carol O'Brien has two young kids inside her spotless home in South Austin.

After leaving a marketing job she decided to turn her passion into a new career.

"I wanted to create products or find products that would help keep my house cleaner for longer," said O'Brien.

And the idea for the Kitty Litter Gripper Mat was born.

"I remember my husband had told me years ago about these sticky mats and how these high tech companies would use these sticky mats as a last line of defense against dirt before workers entered clean rooms," said O'Brien.

For Carol - one of the messiest places was around the kitty litter and found the mat gripped the litter.

"When you pick it up hardly any kitty litter falls off," said O'Brien.

Turns out it does the same thing when it comes to dirt from shoes and sports equipment.

And clean up is a snap.

"You pull up the corners to pouch it in the middle and reveal another clean sticky layer underneath," said O'Brien.
