BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - With all of the devastation from the fires surrounding Bastrop, one restaurant is proving to the town that recovery is possible.
Last December Cindy's Gone Hog Wild restaurant went through a similar situation. The restaurant was destroyed from a fire and after months of rebuilding and renovating, it is finally re-opening.
The owners hope that through their opening on Thursday they can bring the community together and show that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
"Well, our target date to re-open was actually the weekend the fires, the weekend after the fires broke out in Bastrop," said owner Mike Herman. "And we didn't want to be perceived as partying, even though we had gone through, Bastrop's going through what Cindy and I went through Christmas night. And the devastation is incredible."
The former firefighter said his message to the Bastrop people is to keep fighting. He said it's a tough road, but they have to pull themselves up and keep going because they will come back.
