Burnet passes 'Buy American' resolution

Commissioners to make 'effort' to buy U.S. goods

BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Burnet County Commissioners passed a resolution for county leaders to make a conscious effort to buy American-made products in hopes of raising awareness about supporting the United States economy.

The resolution is modeled after the Buy American Act passed by Congress in 1933.

"We want to make a conscious effort to buy American-made products," said Joe Don Dockery, Precinct 4 commissioner.

Dockery said that under the resolution, county officials now must make "every effort" to buy American-made products for county use; the resolution does not apply to personal purchases.

The hope is that members of the public see county officials buying U.S. goods and they decide to do the same. However, under the resolution, only county officials, not area residents, are required to make "every effort" to buy American.
