Giant pumpkin rolls into Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Central Market Westgate customers can guess the weight of the huge pumpkin.

The closest guess wins a Central Market $300 holiday gift card. To make a guess, it's only a $1 donation to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.

"We've seen an average 60 percent increase in the need for food assistance since this time last year," said David Davenport, CAFB president and CEO. "There are hundreds of thousands of Central Texans who need our help. The good news is, as a community, we can do something about it."

Take photos with the giant pumpkin and help a great cause at the same time. The pumpkin will be at Central Market from Oct. 22 until Thanksgiving.

Interesting fact : Texas does not produce the biggest pumpkins. Most oversized pumpkins are grown in the cooler, northern part of the U.S.
